Wonderful snorkel trip with a professional company

This was our first snorkelling trip on the Barrier Reef and we had a wonderful day. The trip was well organised; safety was taken seriously with robust headcounts and signatures to make sure everyone was back on board after each snorkel/dive. We had two snorkel sessions of about one and a half hours each. Stinger suits were available free of charge which we used for sun protection even though it was not stinger season, and noodles were useful for buoyancy. Our second snorkel location was by a reef wall so it very exciting following that along and we saw a huge variety of fish there. Back on board there were laminated sheets of all the reef fish so it was interesting identifying the ones we had seen. All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout the day and lunch was plentiful. As we found later in our holiday, not all reef trips are as professional and well run as this one, so we want to thank the team for a wonderful experience (October 18th).

A wonderful experience!

After 5 disastrous days on Green Island where we found the reef to be dead and over run by hordes of rude and careless tourists (check my review on Green Island), my husband and I decided to drive down to Mission Beach in hope that we would finally be able to dive on a nice part of the Great Barrier Reef. Turns out, there is only one operator in Mission Beach and they only take one small group at a time. And depending on the weather or the ocean’s condition, they do no go out every day. But arguably that is what makes the experience wonderful. They genuinely care about preserving and protecting the reef but also the level of experience and quality of service they provide to their customers. Mission Beach Dive’s experience is far from the big daily “cattle” operations coming out of Cairns where hundreds and hundreds of tourists are packed like sardines for a maximum profit. From the time of the booking to the final taxi transfer from Dunk Island to the mainland, everything is well paced and organized. On the Reef Goddess (name of their dive boat), one doesn’t feel like a number. Everybody is well taken care of by their warm, friendly, attentive and very professional staff. And the diving locations are pristine with lots of fish and healthy corals to see. Another nice touch that differentiate them from the competition is their barbecue lunch buffet. They literally have a real barbecue on the boat and they grill different kinds of fresh meat on board. Their lunch is very yummy. We loved our first day with them so much that we literally called their office from the dive site to make sure they would reserve seats for us on their next trip. Both days were fantastic, and we hope to come back again and dive with them in the future. A warm thank you and shout out to Nancy, Cat and the entire crew!

A day on the reef

Had a great day out on the reef with Cat and the team. Lunch on board was terrific, I especially liked the potato salad :) The huge varieties of fish and their colours were amazing. Finished off the day with a beer on board, perfect.

Excellent day on the reef

Great boat, great crew, great snorkeling, great lunch.... exceptional day out on the greatest reef in the world. 2 snorkeling locations about 1.5 hrs at each. We saw turtles, reef sharks, Fish of a variety of colours and size, spectacular coral. Totally professional crew who were interested in you and enthusiastic about what they do. BBQ lunch was way above expectation. We would totally recommend this experience for any international or Australian tourist. We recommend basing yourself in mission Beach and see North Qld.
